Mr. Gian Paolo Roma currently serves as a Professor and Chair of the Business Programs Department at the State University of New York (SUNY) Broome Community College which is part of New York State’s public system of universities and colleges. He teaches management, accounting, and student success courses. Professor Roma is an accomplished author, having recently published his fourth book entitled: "Student Success: Foundations of Self-Management” (SUNY Press, 2023). This “self-study” textbook introduces a new and comprehensive self-management model to help readers understand their own behavior objectively and recognize how behavioral conduct can impact individual and societal potential. Roma’s book provides a practical framework, “how to” exercises, a behavioral observations measurement system, behavioral profiles, and a behavioral change methodology for individuals, families, and schools to establish, assess, and improve behavioral understanding and performance. Prior to joining academia, Roma was a member of the start-up team that launched Omnipoint Communications, the first Global Systems for Mobile (GSM) wireless carrier in Northeastern United States [now part of T-Mobile]. He led strategic planning, quality assurance, budgeting, workforce management, training, and project management for the customer service division. Roma also held positions in regional and corporate marketing operations, equipment warehousing, distribution operations, business requirements design, and system integration at Omnipoint. Roma started his career at UNISYS and Singer-Link in Quality Assurance Engineering before working for Texaco [now part of Chevron] and NYNEX Mobile Communications [now part of Verizon Wireless] in Corporate Communications.
